Tribe Ox Media is committed to reshaping narratives and building a more informed and representative media landscape in Africa. Our values of integrity, innovation, and collaboration guide our work.
Stories that help us see the bigger picture.
Tribe Ox Media is an African storytelling, media and research practice exploring the relationship between narratives, information, technology, culture and power.
Our work is grounded in a simple idea: to understand a story, we need to understand the context in which it exists.
That means looking beyond headlines and surface-level explanations to examine the evidence, institutions, incentives, technologies and lived experiences that shape how issues are understood.
We are interested in the questions that sit at the intersection of public life and the information environment: how narratives gain influence, how digital platforms shape visibility, how information is used and contested, and how stories affect the way people understand themselves, their communities and the world.
Through journalism, research, multimedia storytelling, public education and strategic communications, we explore these questions and translate our findings into work that people can engage with and use.
We combine editorial curiosity with research, communication and production skills.
Depending on the project, this may involve reviewing documents, analysing narratives, interviewing people, examining digital content, synthesising research, producing multimedia stories or developing communication resources.
We approach each assignment with attention to its purpose, audience, available evidence and potential impact. We aim to create work that is thoughtful, accessible and grounded in the subject it addresses.
Our relationship with our projects
Tribe Ox Media provides the institutional home for a growing range of editorial, research, and public-interest initiatives.
UNDERSTORY develops public-interest journalism and accessible analysis. Fact Fort advances media and information literacy and digital safety. Narrative Atlas Africa explores narrative change and contestation. Africa Narrative Observatory is being developed to examine narratives and information environments across the continent.
